Fall 2014 Kick-Off

The annual Fall Kick-Off was held, in conjunction with the UCSB Retirees’ Association, on November 3 at the Mosher Alumni House.  In addition to a social hour, it featured a presentation by UCSB Marine Science Institute Associate Research Biologist Milton Love will give his presentation and slide show “The Amazing Abundance of Sea Life on Oil Drilling Platforms” Approximately 50 guests attended the event.

UCSB Retiree/Emeriti Enrichment Committee

An ad hoc committee has been established that is a subset of our two boards.  The aim of the committee is to explore ways that our two Associations can cooperatively enhance our campus profile and service to our constituents, with the ultimate goal of establishing a Retiree/Emeriti Center.  The committee began working in winter quarter, and to date has achieved the following results:

Š       Retirement Readiness Workshops

A cordial and fruitful meeting was held with the Director and other representatives of the UCSB Human Resources Office.  As a result of this discussion, emeriti and retiree board members have been invited to participate in the Retirement Readiness Workshops held by HR.  This addition to the Workshop agenda allows those planning retirement to discuss concerns with colleagues who have already “passed to the other side,” and gives us an opportunity to explain and promote our Associations.

Š       Reception for 2015 Retirees

Planning is underway for a reception to honor 2015 faculty and staff retirees.  This will be held at the Mosher Alumni House on May 28.  Chancellor Yang has agreed to attend.

Membership:

2014-15 membership to date is 163 (a 20% increase over last year).
